After a long and sometimes painful process the Chartered Marketer SA qualification has come of age.

At a function in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 18 February 2009, Ivor Blumenthal CE of the Services 
SETA congratulated all those who had worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that the standards 
and momentum of the CM SA qualification remain intact. He singled out the interim council, chaired by 
Dr Ivan May and spoke highly of James McLuckie who has extensive knowledge of the marketing sector 
and who has worked been working behind the scenes with Sam Isaacs of SAQA (South African 
Qualification Authority) to make the CMSA a reality.

Of the 250 Chartered Marketers who held certificates issued over the years, 100 have kept their CM SA 
status via Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives organised by the council.

These 100 individuals represent the academic cream of SA's marketers and were presented with dated 
certificates. An important element for CM's is that of keeping up with the CPD point process which is 
assessed and recertified annually. Blumenthal is confident that the number of CM's will more than double 
over the next 12 months.
